Ford/New Holland 1715
Ok, I'm going to beat the "what do you think" thing to death, but I've searched some info on the net and can't quite figure out if this oil might work with my New Holland 1715 hydraulic system. My system uses one reservoir for the trans, FEL hydrualics, etc. and I've read where this oil is really good for industrial applications for a multiple number of operating ranges. So I thought I'd ask what you all think of running it in my hyd. system on the 1715? I know the spec oil is supposed to meet is M2C134-D for my tractor. I'm thinking of using a Mobile Nuto H32. I've also included a PDF with this post to show the specs on the Nuto H32 oil from Esso, which I think is the "original" developing company of this oil. (Please forgive my ignorance with this, but I'm trying to do a crash course and figure out an oil that will help my Hyd. Squeel in cold temps without having to change oils every winter and then spring) I know a lot of people suggest Amsoil, but curious to know from the experts if this Nuto H32 would work. Thanks for the help!

My reccomendation,

NO, that is a straight hydraulic oil and the tractor fluids need to do some things (gear wear, brakes, clutches etc) that hydrualic oils are not intended to handle.

I would look for a synthetic TDH of the flavor of your choice.

I agree with Alan B. It is a straight hydraulic oil, and the specifications are much less strenuous than for a transmission oil. Note that the tests on the specification sheet (except the last one) are all for hydraulic pumps or motors, and include none of the typical tests for a gear/bearing oil (Timken, etc.). It would probably lubricate the gears and bearings satisfactorily since it has an antiwear additive. The biggest shortcoming is the lack of friction modifiers to prevent chatter in wet brakes and clutches.

It is probably not much less expensive than a good tractor transmission/hydraulic oil like John Deere Hygard J20D for single viscosity, or one of the Shell Donax oils for multi-viscosity. Caterpillar TO-4 SAE 20 is the best you can buy. Surprisingly, John Deere and Caterpillar prices are pretty reasonable on stuff like oil and grease that have comparable products available in the market. I have three Kubotas and once they are out of warranty I use John Deere Hygard J20D in the transmissions and FWD axles.

Ok... that is why i ask the experts hear. Thanks a bunch and on another note, I've also been told that Dextron III was a good "thin" substitute for a good hydraulic oil as it has many of the things in a good hydraulic oil and I think the Penzoil brand exceeds the Caterpiller TO-2 lubricant. (I've not researched the TO-2 yet) Dextron III is thinner and is supposed to hold up in heat and cold, yet be thin in the cold....hence helping the problem I have of slow hydraulic until it warms up completely (which is usually the time I'm done plowing) Any thoughts, and please be kind to me as I'm just learning about all this hydraulic fluid stuff.

Thanks again!

I think that what I would stress too you, that you are not really looking for a "hydraulic" oil, that is one of the many features and attributes of the oil that you need.

As a very general statement, the other attributes are what make TDH or other similar "common sump" oils special.

There are a wide range of products out there that will fill your needs, and it probably comes down to price, availability and comfort level for you and your situation as to what you will decide to run.

Where do you buy your oil's now?

Kubota SUDT is a multi-viscosity trans hydraulic fluid. JD also has one with similar specs. I think FNH does too. You can even get (sc)amsoil multiviscosity fluid.

As you are in the cold areas, those should be good options.
