I'd been struggling with this for a while. My forward travel pedal on my NX5510, since day 1, had this very slight sticking point where when letting up on it it would delay ever so slightly and kind of make a light popping noise, like it was momentarily hanging up and then letting go. I had thought that it was just tight tolerances and that it would eventually free up. Fast forward to more recent times and it got to the point where it was hanging up, not fully releasing; also a pain as I'd go to stomp on the reverse travel pedal and get the stupid "CAL" light; I'd have to nudge up under the forward travel pedal to get it back to it's full neutral position.
I poked around at it a bit but wasn't able to really figure out what was going on. It looked like a mess to deal with so I just put it off. When I had the tractor at the dealer's (leaking rear axle casings- replaced under warranty) I mentioned this to them and they said that they messed with it (though I didn't really expect them to do so- just making a note). With the tractor back I found it to be better, but once it was used for a while, thermal change?, it would once again start sticking. So, at the 400hr service I decided to tackle it. Turns out that the gap in one of the two fork channels that the rear of the travel pedal "turnbuckle" goes in to was too tight. I pried it open a bit and no more sticking! Lubed everything up and felt that I'd beat this thing. And then...
After a little while I found that, once again, the forward travel pedal wasn't properly returning to its neutral position. The pedal, however, wasn't hanging up (so THAT issue is resolved!). It's more like the return springs are weak. I continued to mow figuring that I'd look at it, again, later on. And then I stomp down on the forward travel pedal and I hear a popping sound and the pedal goes limp! Forward travel wasn't possible so I figured I could pull up on the pedal and use reverse to get myself back home. Nothing doing! NO TRAVEL WHATSOEVER! Grr! Got my wife to steer the Kioti while I towed it (in reverse) with the B7800 (almost 1/4 mile). So...
I KNOW that one of the return springs toward the back shaft is dislodged; no idea yet how I can get it reseated. But, not sure on the bits that work with the potentiometer, why, when pulling up on the forward travel, I couldn't get reverse travel.
Page 6-31 of the service manual has the diagram of all the bits. Item #28 is what I messed with (gapped it open a tad more). Item #31 is the spring that is no longer tensioned: hoping that the #17 bolt is the pin/stop and that I can back that bolt out, wind up the spring and then thread the bolt back in (to hold).
I think that shortening up the travel rod ("turnbuckle") should help the pedal to return to the neutral position: manual says it's supposed to be 171mm; wonder if the dealer messed with this? (I have not adjusted it.) I'm concerned, though, that the springs are still weak, and with the one popping out/off I don't know that it won't do this again.
Has anyone else had issues with weak travel pedals?
