Back in my working days we were able to get 10-15' sections of 3/16 O/A twin hose that was very soft and flexible. These short sections were used as a whip on the torch to take the strain from fighting the normal pretty stiff longer hoses.

I have went to 3 welding stores and they do not know what I am talking about. No luck on Amazon or other places on the internet. I bought a section from Amazon but no luck. Who out there in TBN land knows where to get these whips? In my old age I am unsteady enough w/o fighting that stiff hose.

Thanks in advance, Ron

I have never heard of it called a whip,
but have done this for nearly 40 years, as the 3/16 was the original hose with my rig,, and when I added a 50 foot hose behind it that was a larger diameter, been replace a few times over the years,

here is a 12.5 foot hose,

other sources,

3/16-Inch by 12-1/2-Feet Oxy-Acetylene Hose - Google Search

if not get a 25 foot hose and cut it down and put new ends on it, or have the welding store put the ends on it,

Doesn't solve the problem. Problem is all the hose I have explored is too stiff to ease the strain at the torch handle from the stiff hose. Also looking at type T hose for use with propane gas.

"Whip" is probably a trade slang term unique to the pipefitter/welder trade. When O/A welding pipe it is important to not have to fight the standard stiff hose especially when doing certified work. Even more important when brazing and soldering. We also call the short small size (#2) attached to the arc welding stinger "Whip". I have been around the trades for over 60 years.

Some did call the short hose a whip just like their stick lead whips. Most LWS have bulk hose and can make up any length of 3-4 different sizes. I agree that the hoses are getting stiffer than before likely due to where they are made. I remember opening hose packages and they actually were soft and had a light powder coating on them but he soft hoses also damaged easier too. I have a couple around here that are shiney and hard and barely bend at all. I think the hose you are looking for no longer exists. Good Luck !!

You may have better luck getting what you want from an industrial hose supplier. They should have twin oxy-fuel lines in stock. May not be pliable enough to your liking though.

LWS in my area are pretty useless. They’re mainly here to supply gas for institutions and industry.

Ron, also do you have flashback arrestors? If they are on the torch end that may hinder flexibility. If they are, get the ones for the regulator end.

I have quick couplers on my torch handle which makes the entire apparatus stiffer, but that’s fine with me because I am only using the torch for cutting. IMG_7295.jpg

Look up TINMAN. I purchased this hose and like it a lot. Bob

Thanks, I did find them on a search earlier. Need to call them and find out the inside diameter. It will work on my J torch butfor my other torch with a #6 heating tip it may be too small.

Ron, I thought you downsized with the move... it seems that plan is not working.
