O/A Welding Torch Whip

Wonder if it had anything to do with the rising cost of oxygen and acetylene, I used to like having big engines in all my vehicles back when fuel was cheap but not so much anymore.

Yeah, probably. Plus the guys that picked up and used the tips didn't have to pay for them. The company they worked for did. So why not go way oversized and let the Gas Axe Burn !!!

Using larger cutting tips than needed to make the cut, just leave a sloppy job and a lot of excess slag. A 00 will cut 1/4" nice and smooth. Much less than that use a 000 (the smallest). Agree that most use one way to big. Same with welding/brazing. Use the smallest tip that keeps a nice puddle, good penetration, and low noise that will get the job done efficiently. I have seen guys welding schd 40 pipe with a #6 tip, or a #2 that has a roaring flame. Both are bad and waste gas too. I was always used a #3 or 4.
