I've noticed something, and I'm wondering if it's a problem, or nothing to worry about...

The steering wheel on my 1540...when I began, the steering wheel was upright (ie, aligned such that the MF symbol in the center was upright and centered.) As I've used it over the first ~10 hours though, this has changed. The steering wheel has shifted such that now it's spun a few inches one way or the other, even when the front wheels are straight.

Should it be doing this? Is this a problem?

Thanks in advance!

No this is normal. There is always some internal leakage in the power steering system. so drift of the apparant center position is constantly happening. It may not be very much, but it is there. There is no hard mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the front tractor wheels on almost all tractors today.

There is nothing wrong with your tractor. It has hydrostatic steering without any mechanical connection. There are just hoses from the unit on the end of the steering column to the unit that actually turns the wheels. I don’t like the wheel not being straight either, but that is the way it is.

No answers, just a thank you. Ratter, I'm glad to watch your questions and the reponses as I'm sure I'll be undergoing the same dilemma's in a week or two (hopefully).
I did order the remote hydraulic kit so hopefully that is the extra time involved.

My new 1533 did the same thing, now it's back close to straight. I guess it'll drift back and forth as it's used.

Thanks guys, I was hoping that was the answer. I figured as much, since the steering still worked perfectly fine. Currently raining here, otherwise I'd be out figuring out more questions. ;)

Send some south. I've been gone 9 days and it rained 1.8" at home day after I left. First measurable precipitation we had in 23 days, and only .3" when we got that three weeks before. Needless to say, it's kinda dry in SE MS.

I noticed the same thing on my 1433V; the reason why I noticed it only recently is I added a "suicide knob" (spinner) to the wheel and it changes position which drives me a little crazy at times...

I am glad that Ratter asked that question! I have a 1433v and have noticed this, just thought I was having a hard time remembering what I thought I remembered!
