I'm gonna keep it real short and then leave the subject. I guess my lack of fascination with the current space exploration programs is:
1) they're screwin' up all those SF books I've always loved
2) the government is the worst possible author for well-defined, achievable goals. Why did we go to the moon? some playboy named Kennedy was p*d that the soviets beat us into space and he was gonna show them who was superior.
The fact that good businessmen have managed to make some useful products from that goal is exactly that: good business. The Soviets spent even more GNP on the space race ... to what end?
ok ... truce ... I don't disagree on the value of the space program ... we humans are pretty good at making omelettes out of broken eggs. I was just enjoying the "debate". Your logic was fine ... there was nothing you had to convince me of, however ... (but, to be fair ... if it was a different form, I would have had fun writing a tome in opposition to your examples).
