There is another thread on TBN that has some information that may be helpful: https://www.tractorbynet.com/forums...ng/420182-what-battery.html?highlight=battery

Here is some helpful information: Battery Basics - Guide to Batteries | BatteryStuff

How Odyssey batteries are made: How an ODYSSEY Battery Is Made - YouTube

How Interstate batteries are made:Making Interstate MT7 AGM Batteries - YouTube

You be the judge on what features make one battery more preferred.

Duration is also dependent on how a battery is treated or used/non-used I use trickle chargers on all of the batteries installed in equipment which is not used regularly. I also try to do occasional trickle charging of my vehicles if they aren't used for a few days, just to maximize their capacity and desulfinate them. I have batteries that are over 10 years old in some of my equipment. There are plenty of comparisons for batteries and maintainers on the internet.

Consumer Reports has additional helpful information, ratings and comparisons: Best Car Battery Buying Guide - Consumer Reports

Here is a comparison of maintainers: https://5productreviews.com/best-battery-maintainers/

Stay safe,

Two years ago I replaced my Kubota OEM battery with an Odyssey. The Odyssey is a group 31 @ 1150 CCA. Two years is no real test in time but the new battery certainly cranks the M6040 easily.

The Odyssey Group 31 is listed at $439.99 on Batterymart.com.
That price would equate to FOUR $110 Duracell Ultra BCI (950 CCA) truck batteries.
I would expect that 950 CCA would work the same as 1150 CCA in your climate.
Most any truck battery will last 7 years if using a BatteryTender.
As a comparison: Can it be expected that the Odyssey will last for 28 years,....or even half that long?

No denying - my Odssey WAS expensive. I had a gel cell with no trickle charger on my previous tractor. I got nervous and changed it out at 17 years. It's still kicking around - used for various alternate tasks. Unfortunately - I could not find a heavy duty group 31 battery for much less than $175 to $195.

The REAL QUESTION is - at 77 will I last another 28 years?? :dance1:

As I think you are already aware, we share a very similar body longevity issue.
MY personal battery is definitely shorting out internally,......as I am now in my 80th year.
I now actually consider any product with a projected service life of more than 5 years, to be in excess of what I may need.
I am also absolutely certain that I will not need to have my house roof shingled again.

I wanted an Odssey for my truck but ended getting another Optima due to the cost. At about 12 years the last one is still good for awhile but needed peace of mind going sledding.

Well - it's not MY internal battery that is shorting out. However - my mind congers up projects that my 'ol bod just can't muster up to. My mind has a great idea - I think about it for a while - the body says- "just sit back and enjoy the hot coffee".

BTW - upon initially checking the battery in the Taco Wagon. What a surprise. There are five leads coming off the positive terminal. I sure hope that there is a small battery - somewhere - to hold a charge on all the systems when it comes time to install a new main battery.

The mere thought of having to go thru all the "startup routine" again with a battery change over - make a grown man weep.

Most stuff has flash memory now & its nonvolatile. They need it for all the computers to remember mileage & what not across battery changes now that mechanical odometers are gone. Along with a ton of other configs.
