gentlemen,
i've never professed to being the sharpest knife in the drawer, especially with certain mechcanical things . . . anyway, i walked by my bx in our garage around noon and i saw that the engine temperature guage was reading dead in the middle of the gauge face ( at a left hand 45 degree angle).
am guessing the outide tempeture was in the high eighties. i immdiately cursed myself for leaving the key in the ignition, except there wasn't a key in it. i also started and checked for hours run time, expecting to see a bigger number that i had previously run, and it matched my previvous run time.
anybody got an explaination for me? my dealer who i haven't and won't call couldn't give me answer for (why his/my new unit had 7.7 hrs run time on it, when it was delivered to me). i was hoping the bx was just happy to see me,
but i have yet to understand my querky beast. thanks in advance. shrekbelly

p.s. how's this temperature gauge supposed to work?

Are you sure its not just stuck there from the last time you used it? Did it drop down when you turned the key on? I pretty sure my BX holds the last temp when the key is turned of and will read correctly when its turned back on.

Well, I know my 1850 will show the last fuel tank reading when it was shut off so it retains the last value until you turn the key again. Then it will drop to empty and bounce back to whatever level is in the tank. I'm betting the temp guage also retains the last reading before being shut off. Did you try turning the key one stop, don't need to actually start it, just juice it with some DC current?

offcamber , chris
i wasn't near the tractor for a week. my 9 & 8 yr. old daughters are eyeing it up and will make a strong push to operate it as soon as their legs are long enough (for that reason, the kubota keys are out of their reach), presently they serve as ballast weight in the rear box on short rides around the property.
thanks for your observations, i'll keep my eye on it. shrekbelly

I think the temp and fuel gages on all 3 of my BXs go back to 0 after turning the key to off.

folks,
have run the bx twice since i posted my question. here's what happens with my particular bx.
i run the tractor, it warms up to operating temperature. upon shutting down, the temperature needle stays put., until the next time i run it. upon restarting when the motor is cold, the needle drops to the horizontal and then rises as it warms . . . . i still must ask my dealer. aloha- shrekbelly

That's just how it works. The temp reading at your last shutoff holds until the next time you turn the key.
