Well, it's not a big one, anyway. This little red tractor has been great, overall.

Anyway, I started pumping red-dyed off-road diesel all over the place. Tracked the leak down to a split in the fuel hose just below the stub it attaches to on the engine. Couldn't believe it, but I did have some 5/16" SAE J30 fuel line, and even some 5/16" soft-drawn copper tubing right here at the house! Made up a splice, cut out the old piece and installed the new 4" section, good to go. Only problem now is that my clothes and the garage all smell of diesel fuel. Guess it could have been worse!

Something folks might want to keep an eye on. The leak was on the engine side (had to use a small mirror to see it) of the tube. Seems like the J30 tubing I replaced the top section with was a lot heavier duty than what came from the factory, but that wouldn't be the first time I've noticed that, either.

I think that title is a little dramatic, over fuel line leak.

Thanks for the heads up. I will make a note to check that.

I wish these were built like a semi. But then, I would not have wanted to pay the price for one either.

Thanks, Ray.. I guess that was the intent. Overall, I've been very happy with my little red beast; it's turning out to be very dependable. Still on the original battery-- maybe '07 was a just good year or something.

Yeah, it turned out to be an easy fix. The hydraulic lines I replaced a year or so ago were also not nearly as rugged as the replacements I put on (I'm trying to be kind here:cool:)-- guess that's how the bean-counters take care of business. This summer I'll plan to replace the entire fuel line.

Had a pinhole in my fuel line - where it is attached to the engine. Cut it one inch back and put it on with new clamp.

tthopskin-- Thanks, I'll try that! (But I will wait until it's warmer!) irvingj

67PLY- sounds like the same spot, though my split was long enough and low enough that I wouldn't have been able to pull enough line up to re-attach. Must be a vibration issue right there, along with some rather thin-walled fuel line. Maybe my temporary splice will work well enough to become permanent.
