Ohio steel lawn sweeper

As the title states, does anyone have first hand experience with one of these in the 50inch model?
I see the good reviews on some forums,and others not so good. Do any of you fellows have one, and
how does it perform getting up large leaves: oak, elm, maple, etc?

BIL bought a 46" lawn sweeper from Lowes last week and it works pretty well even on wet leaves. I had been looking on Craigslist at some used for sale. They all look alike and work the same way regardless of brand. The only one that looked a little different was a John Deere one and it was just on the height adjustment lever that was different and was $150 more. Most are priced new at $299 or thereabouts. Adjust the bristle height correctly and they will even pick up rocks from the grass. Buy whichever one is cheapest. Lowes guy said that we had 30 days to bring it back if we didn't like it.

I believe they are still available new, But wouldn't swear to it. The Case/Ingersoll sweepers are considered to be the best on the market. The majority are sold to professional sports stadiums to pick up trash and redistribute the dirt. They are pulled in gangs of three. They are not designed like any other sweeper manufactured. If they are still available new, the price would be ridiculous. Ones in nice shape can be bought for very reasonable prices via Ebay and Craigslist. If you are patient the right deal will come along. I think you should research these sweepers before making any decisions. I think you will be pleasantly surprised how good of a job they do when in good working order. A rear discharge deck is recommended, but I don't believe mandatory.
