This probably sounds like a trivial topic but so be it. I've had numerous oil cans over the years and have thrown away probably 3 out 4. Maybe I'm just picky but it seams like some are simply junk and leak like a sieve out of the top end.

My question has to do with different sizes of oilers on smaller equipment like machine tools (drills, mills etc) that have a tiny spring loaded ball type female fitting to accept oil type lubricant. (See the illustration in the lower right of the link just below) I see at least two different sizes of these fittings on my equipment. I have a couple oil cans with a ball shaped spout end that should fit these type of fittings but doesn't seem like they work worth a hoot in that they don't seal well when trying to inject oil. Perhaps the end of the spout should be a soft material like neoprene?

I'm not talking large oil can but something about the size shown in the link below. I see that it is a "Golden Rod" brand. I recall that brand from 50 or 60 years ago but they're probably imported now.

Looking to hear your thoughts, facts and opinions.

I don't think they are supposed to seal. You push the ball down and just let a little dribble past it. It's an oil fitting, not a grease zert. They can be messy and the smaller the oil can, the better and easy on the trigger. good luck

The fittings are sometimes on a vertical surface and the hole extends maybe a couple inches horizontally. Would be difficult to make sure some oil is getting to where it is needed.
