I have a JD 2210. Last fall I reached 100 hours and changed from dino to Rotella 5w 40. Iam now up to 133 hours. I live in New York and for this winter the starting has been good with this oil, but somehow Im not so sure that this lighter weight will be so good during the summer. Apart from the usual mowing and fel use I have a rotary cutter, which I think is fairly demanding on the engine. Do you think I should drain and go to a 15w 40 or wait for at least 150 hours

If you are going to be using the tractor in early spring I wouldn't worry about it. If you get into last May and June then I'd probably go ahead and get it changed.

I've been running the 5-40 Rotella syn for a few years. You get the benefits of a 5 weight in the winter, (great cold starts and better oil flow when the engine is below operating temperature) and the benefits of a 40 weight when the tractor is at operating temp. Don't switch it out. I would recommend an annual oil and filter change.

I've been using the Rotella "T" synthetic 5W-40 in the 955 since I got it (143 hrs), changing it and the filter every 100 hrs or annually; it has 685 hrs on it now, and seems very happy. Likewise in the X595, although it doesn't get the use the 955 does, so, its changes are annual ones, not 100 hr ones. It's also in the diesel Gator, where it will end up being an annual thing too, I think - just can't seem to find enough tasks for all of 'em to do. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

According to my J-D Owner's Manuals, 5W-40 pretty much covers the temperature spectrum for our part of the country (I'm in PA). Good cold-weather starts and excellent protection during summer heat. I also noticed a definite difference in throttle response on the 955 when I changed out the 15-40 that was in there originally, although I'm not sure if that means anything or not. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We use the same oil in the 310D loader/hoe, and I even stuck some in my F150. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
