oil coming out of breather

Hi

I have a New Holland 7635 and it is spitting a lot of oil out of the breather when under load, don't think it is the piston rings as low hours and well looked after.

Could I have the wrong oil in ? currently using 10w30

Most people would run 15w 40 in that series engine, but many Japanese diesels run 10w 30 and don't have problems. Is this what you have always used without problem until now? Is the oil level high, and possibly thinned out with fuel or hydraulic fluid? The steering and hydraulic pumps are engine driven, so either could possibly transfer fluid to crankcase. Steering would run dry quickly as it holds only a quart or two, but hydraulic, injection, or fuel lift pumps could be a factor.

Assuming you aren't overfilled with oil, worn rings or a burned/cracked piston crown are the usual causes of serious blowby.

oil level seems ok and there no real 'blow' from the breather just oil !

I think we used to run 15w40 and our supplier changed it to 10w30 a while back which could coincide with the problem.

I'll change to 15w40 and see if that cures it.
