I recently purchased an Oil Filter from Wix the number is 51056 which is the cross ref number for the oil filter that New Holland uses. The question I have is this oil filter is smaller than the current oil filter on the unit. Anyone else had this experiance?

Thanks

BeeFarmer you may want to ask the forum moderator to move your post From Kubota to the New Holland forum. It will get more replies there. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

According to the Wix website, Wix #51521 is the proper willfit filter for your TC. New Holland part # 86546618 should retail for under $7 at your NH dealer, and is a larger filter than the SBA140517020 that you think is too expensive at over $11+. We routinely use the 86546618 filter on all Class II and III NH tractors except the 35.

Rick do you know a substitute for the large hydraulic filter SBA340500920 on a TC-40D? New Holland gets $48.65 for theirs. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Thanks for your reply... I don't know that I mentioned anything about the cost of the units being a concern .. Just finding replacements is the trick. The dealer I bought my unit from decided to retire a few months after I purchased the unit... /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif So having two old Olivers on the farm you learn to find out as much as you can as parts become unavailable.

Thanks again

Yes, there is a major filter manufacturer that claims to have a filter to replace the Class III hydraulic filter. I know from experience that some aftermarket hydraulic filters when correctly used will cause problems due to excessive restriction. For that reason, I recommend only OEM filters for hydraulic systems. Changed at the recommended interval, that $48 filter costs less than $.17 per hour to have on your tractor. Changing expensive hydraulic filters at engine oil change intervals is where a lot of folks waste big bucks. If the manufacturers wanted us to change these filters at 100 hours, they would specify it. Low use units are an exception, but still should have the OEM filter.

Kinda figured that might be the case. But hey it never hurts to ask, right? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Rick, I agree with you. I can't imagine using an aftermarket filter and then take my tractor in for service or rapair. If I'm having work done at my New Holland dealer, I want the service manager and all technicians to see I use only NH filters. I know I can save a few dollars if I use aftermarket filters, but why? The value of "good will" at my dealer and the knowledge that the correct filter is in my tractor is worth a lot to me. Now, I'm not saying anyone is wrong for using other filters, I'm just pointing out what works best for me, personally.

I must admit that after I thought about an aftermarket filter I wasn't too keen on the idea myself. I don't want to be penny wise and pound foolish on an investment like I made. The best way to protect my New Holland is not scrimping with aftermarket filters, after all that is what keeps the machine running clean. I'm over the filter sticker shock...... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
