Yanmar ym270
I have yanmar ym270 tractor. And yes it is definately a ym270. It has a cartridge type oil filter in it. I have no parts numbers and can't find it anywhere even at local john deere dealer. Does anyone have any idea what cartridge it might use or how i can change it to a spin on filter of some sort ?

thanks

When I had 180D and 220D Red Yanmars, I found that Mazda car & truck oil filters were interchangable with the Yanmar parts.

Try taking it to Napa or a parts store that sells Wix filters.

I second this advice. In the back of the Wix master catalog is a filter size spec guide. One can match the diagrams and measurements to arrive at the right
size. Provided the counterperson can read you should be good.

I tried their web site but the spec guide isn't on there.

We hear this all the time from folks who seem to assume that if a filter is the same (or similar) in size to the original and it will thread on, it must be right. There are other factors that can't be measured this way....presence or lack of an anti-drain valve, pressure setting on same, micron size of filter material, flow rate/capacity of the filter. It is prudent to make sure these things match up unless a filter is specifically listed for your tractor application by the filter manufacturer.

In an ideal world, sure. But - if the user is going to use the compression release until the oil light goes out, then drainback won't be very important. Likewise an automotive-sized filter should have adequate flow capacity for these 1200cc or less engines in the smaller tractors. Seems to me micron size of an oil filter might correspond to the reputation of the mfr, but a quality automotive filter should be a good-enough match assuming regular maintenance intervals and quality oil. I see one seller of filters for Yanmar calls it a '1334'. ( A common filter # for Honda etc). What am I missing? What is the magic that makes an OEM or replica filter better?

The master catalog lists all those specs as well, but since he has none of that to go on I didn't include it.

Thanks guys for all the help and suggestions. I did as suggested and went to oreilly's auto parts and the guy there used the wix filter guide to match me up with a cartridge that works like a charm !

Thanks again
