I did the first oil change on my 3510 the other day and had somethng happen that has never happened to me before and I have changed thousands of oil filters since 1957. After changing the oil and filter I started the engine to check for leaks. With the engine idling I jumped down to look and everthing seemed fine, no leaks and the engine purring like a kitten. After about maybe three minutes or so all hell broke loose. Oil spraying from around the gasket at an amazing clip. I shut the engine down and checked to see if I had forgotten to tighten it enough and it was tight. (As tight as I could turn it with my bare hands). I reinstalled the original filter, poured three more quarts of oil back in(shows you how fast it squirted out) and restarted the engine. No leaks and I'll bet I let it run for 10 minutes, After looking the leaker over real close and finding nothing visibly wrong I reinstalled it and the samething happened. No leak for about a minute or so then whammo. This is a dealer filter and when I reported this to them they claim they had never had any probs. and are replacing the filter. Any ideas/

Sounds like a defective filter. Might not have a good crimp where the canister is attached to the base plate? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Check out the old filter and make sure the gasket came off with it sometimes the oe filter especially when it gets painted over when theypaint the block sticks to the block, so then you have two gaskets, the heated oil under pressure shoots out between the two gaskets. glenn.

Pull off the old filter and clean the paint from the oil filter mount where the gasket seals. This should probably solve your problem. We have had a few do this, the original filter is painted with the engine. The new filters have a little larger seal and hits the paint.
Hope this solves your problem

To all of you that own 3510 or 4110 models:

I had a long talk with the tech support people at Mahindra last week about my filter problems and it appears that at this time there is no replacement oil filter for the above. I did some measurements with a vernier caliper and the replacement filter offered by the dealer will not work. The original filter gasket has a flat cut surface raised above the metal end plate that is the correct diameter for the machined surface on the engine block. The replacement filter's gasket is flush with the end plate with a raised bead on the gasket OD. This bead is supposed to do the sealing. The only problem is that the diameter of this raised bead is larger than the OD of the surface it is supposed to seal against and therefore does not create a reliable seal. Mahindra is aware of this and has no answer at this time. They tell me that they are unable to get the same filter as is installed by the engine mfg. on the new engines. They are supposedly working on the problem but as of my chat with them there are no solutions. Isn't that just peachy! They gave me a couple of numbers for commercial filters from Wix and Motorcraft that they think MIGHT work. I have not checked them out yet. So be forewarned. If you spring a leak while you are in the field you could lose all your oil in a matter of a few seconds and lunch your engine in short order.

Would you post the cross referance filter #S?

This seems a bit strange, that they cannot get a filter for replacement, when Daedong is making those engines everyday & shipping them to TYM with filters installed. It seems someone at Mahindra isn't trying hard enough. What would they do if someone had damaged the old filter removing it? Tell them sorry we can't replace it or here are the part #'s for a filter that isn't rated for use on your engine? Their answer isn't good enough. I hope some dealers are beating on them about this. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

There must be more to this story than we have seen here so far. I changed my oil & filter on my 4110 (as I am sure many many others have) and I do not have an oil leak. I looked at my replacement filter, and it looked identical (to the eye) as the original. So, maybe they DID have good replacements in the past, and DON'T have anymore of those remaining or something????. I am about to call my dealer (Knox tractor) and find out what is going on here.

I have replaced my filter on my 2810HST a couple of times and haven't had any problems so far.

I do have to make sure it is on real tight or it would leak and I me leak like you are discribing. but I still have it hand tight.

Good luck on finding out what your problem is .
