My 4WD DK45 has developed a leak at the left front axle. While handy and capable of wielding a wrench, not being a mechanic I am uncertain as to what to do next. Any suggestion would be truly appreciated.

CR, there are a couple places where they can leak, can you post a photo or two of the leak? Did you hit something? Any signs of obvious contact (scratches, slivers of wood, etc)?

First, do you have a service manual? It sure would be nice to have one handy...

Is this static leak (while the tractor is not moving) or does it leak only during operation?

Don't disassemble anything yet, but thoroughly clean the suspected area of leakage.

If a static leak, let the machine set, but check it fairly often to try to determine exactly what is leaking and where.

If it leaks only during operation, run the tractor in an area that won't get it too gunked up, than park it and try to determine where the oil is coming from.

The leak isn't necessarily at the area you see any dripping. The oil may cling to the surface of the axle before dripping.

If the leak is outboard, it's obvious you'll need to pull the wheel nearest the leak.

Now, this is where you really want a manual.

I'm pretty sure you have a bad axle seal. That's the most logical and common issue. You'll have to remove and replace that seal or seals (if is this the cause of the leak).

As I mentioned, you really need a service manual. If you don't have one, try your dealer. He may have a pretty good idea what components need replacing and if you should replace all seals during the tear down

I hope you posted this on the Kioti forum. What I've written is pretty generic. Hopefully you can get more detailed info in that forum.

The picture attached is a Deere 790 front axle...just to give you an idea of what may require disassembly. Don't panic! You only go as far as you need to, not complete disassembly.

Good luck to you!

I don't have a service manual. I guess I'll have to remedy that soon. I am not sure whether the leak is static or in motion. I just finished doing some fel work and parked the tractor for a break. When I came back I saw oil on the rim of the left front wheel.

Think maybe the oil could be from the hydraulic cylinder on your FEL?

I'm going to check but I am fairly certain that it is from the front axle.

Clean it.. then get an exploded parts diagram. look for seals / gaskets int he area of the leak.. the diagram will also tell you how/what tools you will need.. etc.
