Hi Everyone,

Its been a while since I posted, but I have been reading to gain experience from all of you. Thanks for that. My TC21d recently started leaking oil at the rear of the engine. The leak's origin is not visible because it is under the console of the tractor where the fuel tank, gauges and such are located. The oil looks like engine oil, but I can't be positive. The oil is running down the left side of the block just in front of where the instrument panel ends when you are sitted on the tractor. Any help on what this is would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for several years of great knowledge.

Could it be a valve cover gasket leaking? Might try tightening up the cover bolts/screws a little.

I would look on the NH web site under parts you can type in your modle and get a breakdown on the engine. It may be a tube or sending unit or a gasket. It will show your unit in a microfish format. If all else fails you can add a oil dye and find it wth a light.

Interesting ideas. I'm leaning toward the valve cover gasket, but with out tearing things apart there is no way of knowing for sure. Great replies and great people here. Thanks.

I had a hydraulic line leaking that was running in that same area. It ran down the side of the engine even though the line was running beside the engine. Tightened the hose clamps up and it has been fine since.

Kent, the power steering reservoir on my tractor seeps. It's on the right side on my TC45, but I'm not sure where it is on your TC21D. You might check the hose attached to the bottom of that reservoir.

Also, my engine oil filler tube is toward the rear of my engine. That could be a source of a leak if the base of the tube where it enters the valve cover is not sealed properly.

Is the oil seeping enough to drip, or is it just wet and attracting dust? It doesn't take but a few drops to grow a dust "beard" around the area of a tiny leak.

does anyone have a tractor that does NOT drip oil somewhere?

I had a similar leak on the left side. Upon inspection it was were a rubber hydraulic hose connected to a hard line that crossed under the dash. I've had to tighten up most of the hose clamps, especially in the winter do to leakage.

That is the exact one I was talking about Dave. I think if I were Kent I would start there before I went any farther.

Ours did the same thing. I tightened some fittings, and all was well, until it started some place else. Couldn't find the leak, so sent it to the dealer. The power steering was leaking up under the dash, or behind the shroud under the steering wheel. All is well now.
