Oil & Fuel Oil leaking around Cyl. on RZT

Got a RZTwith a single cyl. Kohler 17 hp engine.

Oil started leaking around the engine cylinder area and blowing out to the left side. None coming out the exhaust.

What do you think is wrong?

How much trouble to fix?

How much cost to fix?

Is it a 17hp Courage or Command series engine? Where on the cylinder does oil appear to be leaking; Around the valve cover, cyl head, etc... Could it be overfull of oil and some is blowing from the breather? I'd check the air cleaner housing for oil. That would indicate oil blowing from the crankcase breather hose. Thanks for responding to my questions. I finally had a chance to check the mower more closely yesterday.

It's a 17hp Courage series engine. The oil appeared to be leaking from the cylinder head gasket, but it looks like the oil is leaking from the area where the top cover is bolted to the rest of the engine. The top cover I am refering to is the cover under the flywheel.

Air cleaner housing was/is clean.

While checking it out, I noticed two bolts where loose on the above mentioned top cover-right where the oil appears to be leaking. Also noticed the engine was moving just a tad on the frame. Got underneath and the four bolts attaching the engine to the frame where loose. And the two bolts holding the exhaust pipe cover (with HOT punched out on it) where loose.

I tighten all the bolts and made a test run. No leaks for now.

Why are there loose bolts?

I'll keep you posted if it leaks.
