Oil & Fuel Oil Level Mystery

I just changed the oil and filter in a Kubota L4200 that I recently acquired.
The owners manual states that, with the filter, the oil capacity is 6.3 quarts.
I drained the oil, changed the filter, added 6 quarts and then ran the engine for a few minutes.
When I checked the oil level it was just a little above the low mark.
There is 2&3/8" between the low and full marks.
After adding another full quart for a total of seven, the level is still 1/2" below the full mark. The tractor is parked level and I have verified that it has the correct dipstick.
Not sure now if I should drain some out or add some.
What I do know for sure is that it has 7 quarts in it and still reads 1/2" below the full mark even after sitting overnight, and that the owners manual states that 6.3 quarts is the capacity.
Anyone have any ideas why it's still reading low ?

Some of the Kubota manuals have two different oil capacities for the engine. I would venture the opinion that at a different location in the manual you will find the oil capacity listed as 7+ quarts with a filter change.

with filter, my 3710 takes 2 gallons of oil to fill to the full mark.

Six quarts in a diesel sound too few..........

Believe the dipstick.

A little overfilled is not going to cause a disaster at any rate.

Kubota fills new tractors to the midpoint of the dipstick anyway.

L4400 (134 cubic inch)with a filter is 8 Qts. I think it is the same engine as in the L4200

It isn't unheard of for a manual to be wrong in some respects. I would believe the dipstick.
Do you have an idea of how much oil drained out?

I had a similar experience on my first oil change.
On my BX2660 the owners manual states 3.7 quarts but it takes 4.25 quarts to the full mark.
I am wondering if they are stating engine oil capacity without the added filter capacity.

Extra quarts are sacrificed to the the oil gods. If they are not appeased, they can possess your mind. Then you will start posting to the "what kind of oil is best?" threads. Beware.

I'd leave it at 7 quarts, 1/2 inch below max is a good place to be in my opinion. It allows room for expansion when the oil is hot, and I'd sooner be slightly below full than slightly over.

Does it have a FEL? Other implements? What's the position of the implements and 3pt when you check the oil?
Are all the tubes extended?
On my ride it makes over a quart difference.
