Oil mixed in transmission

i think I'd dump in some diesel or kero like DP sugested, after cleaning filters, also dump in some biocide for diesel on the rare chance it was a biological, and not a cold parifin buildup.

circulate for a minute or two, then drain, then refill with good clean oil.

check fitler every few hours.

if oil clouds or clumps, repeat.

as DP said.

cleaning a sump with diesel / kero is quite common.

almost all my fords get it when i drag them home..

I'm thinking back to our old 806 and if I remember it right, it was a Hy-Tran only - no separate axle or anything that took gear oil. Since it s used, is your service guy saying someone mixed gear oil in with the hydraulic oil? Gear oils (GL-1 through 6) can have aggressive chemicals that attack some of the components of an 806 like Torque Amplifier clutch, PTO clutch. I haven't heard about gelling when mixed but it's possible.

anything with yellow metal parts can be attacked by gl4+ oils that are not mt-1 or marked yellow metal safe.. etc.

yes that is what he is saying, i had to pull the pto out a few times to clean off the pick up screen, TA is slow too when warmed up it seems to be ok, steering and i guess everything is messed up do to this, i just dont know if flushing it with fuel will do it, or it will cause more problems.

i'd for sure be flushing it and do an oil change.

In fact. I'd dump in a couple gallons of pint thinner , diesel, or kerosene, let it circulate till warm.. though not an excessive amount of time, then drain.

then I'd put in the cheapest utf I could find.

TSC has some super cheap 25$ / 5g utf on sale usually.

i'd put that in.. run it a day, and if it looked like it was clouding or gelling, I'd dump in some more kerosene, run till warm and change it again.

something in that system is not likeing mixing.

no telling what oil was in there and what it got topped off with.. heck.. might be cooking oil.. :)

I had water in my hydro which is not that unlike your situation. I changed out the fluid and filters a half dozen times, running maybe half an hour between changes. Drained out a few clumps the first two or three times. You bite the bullet and spend the money on cheap fluid except for your last couple of flushes. I would skip any solvent. I will change it again after 25 hours.

skipping solvent can add lots of oil changes that are not needed.

in your case of a wet sump.. simple addition of an alcohol product would have made de-watering that sump much easier. soemthing like trans tune from seafoam.

water is polar.. alcohol is a polar solvent. thus disolving water and letting it be carried out in soloution ( disolved ) and not in suspension or emulsion.. etc.

kind of a work smarter, not harder issue.

Yes, but I didn't have the benefit of your counsel!! Next time I'll ask for advice. But even with alcohol I would have done the same number of changes, just that the changes would have been more beneficial.
