The other day I was working the tractor tilling. After a couple of hours the oil pressure light came on. I had to run the tractor about 20 more minutes to make it back to the truck. I had just changed the oil a couple of houres previously. Today I started the tractor. The oil light never came on even when I first turned the key and started it. I ran a couple of hours today and then the light came on again and would not go off. I changed the oil again, let it cool down but it will not go out, the tractor seems to run fine and I feel like it is just a bad switch but can't risk running it.

Two questions;

Does anyone know what size socket will take the switch out? 1 1/8" is too big and 1" is too small. I will have to buy a socket to get it out but don't want to buy a whole large metric set for one socket.

Is there any part number besides a yanmar number for the switch? Or thread size so that I can get a part from an auto parts store? The stores around here are lousy and unless you tell them the exact make and model of car they can't find anything.

Sorry for such a long post but I am in a jam, I have a buncvh of work to get done now that the weather has broken and now I am stuck.

Thanks in advance for any help.

That would make it about 27mm

I would guess .. oh.. say crescent wrench size should do it.. or even vice grip size.. or pipe wrench size.

I had to replace an oil sending unit on my 1700 when I got it. as far as i remember.. I just grabbed one that had metric threads from napa.. I think it cut out at? 6 psi or somehting.. maybee 10.. can't remember.

I have always thought about plumbing a 'T' in there and running a real gauge as well as the idiot light.. just never have gotten around to it yet... probably won't either...

I can't get a wrench on there unless I take a bunch of other stuff apart which I am trying to avoid. And thanks I kind of figured out 27mm, might be 28 but 27 should work I hope now I hope that I can find the right sending unit or adapter for a guage. I will just have to find an auto parts store with someone with a brain.

Well it appears that I am not too bright. Just because the manual said that the oil pressure light was on the right and the coolant temp on the left it was actually reversed. Now I am completely confused because the oil light is not working at all and the engine temp light will not go out even though the tractor is cold. Now what?

The temp light goes on when it is shorted to ground, either by the sensor reaching 235(?) degrees, or by insulation scraped off the wire somewhere. If it is on continuous you might try replacing the wire.

To determine which bulb is which - upon starting, the oil pressure light should go out after 10 seconds cranking the cold engine using the compression release. The alt light should go out after the engine fires. Temp light should never light when starting, only when overheated or you test it by grounding its wire.
