i just put a oil pressure gauge on the 240 because i hate idiot lights.....time they come on the damage is done.....just me

question is it is running 78 psi cold at idle and 68 psi warm at idle and goes up to 75 psi at 2400 rpm warm......is this to high for these engines?......i seen that 35 to 55 is normal should i look into it or just hammer down????

oh btw oil and filter was changed 10 hours ago 15-45 rotella and a quart of Lucas...

I had to replace the oil pressure sender on the YM240. Here's what I observed when I had a real pressure gauge on it temporarily:

"Yanmar specifies 35-50 psi 'at working RPM'. I assume that means 1800 to 2400. I found 40-42 at PTO rpm after warmup. And 35 psi at 1500 rpm, down to 22 at 1100 rpm.

The post I posted at the time. In summary I found the Yanmar sender was generic across many Japanese cars.

Also, that post describes normal temperatures that I measured at the head, pan, radiator etc.

it is a mechanical.....i have another gauge on another tractor i can swap out to see if they read the same....

Maybe try swapping out the gauges. I wouldn't think the Lucas additive would affect anything.

i tried another gauge and it reads the same.....i guess this is how this engine is....

Seems odd to me. I wonder if there is a restriction somewhere causing the high reading? When you changed the oil how thick and old did it look and smell? Did you notice any chunks? Did you use any type of thread sealer when you installed the fitting for the gauge that may have occluded the line a little? Does it look like the timing cover has been off? Maybe they changed out the oil pump at one time and it is a higher volume, I don't know if they even make a high volume one for these tractors to be honest. Just throwing some thoughts out there

A quart of LUCAS. . . . ? They make a lot of stuff. I would ignore it, or at most change the oil, with no additive.

Yeah I wouldn't put any addative in it. 15w40 if that's what you used is pretty thick oil and that Lucas oil addative is pretty thick stuff. Probably like 30 weight.

My point is that stuff is probably not the cause of oil pressure being high but it's not helping.
