OIL QUESTION

   / OIL QUESTION #11
The single most important consideration is viscosity. Check your owners manual, find the correct recommended visosity. If it's a diesel engine, use a quality CJ-4 oil if built after 2006. CI-4 is ok 2006 or older. Chevron Delo 400, Shell Rotella, Mobil Delvac 1300, and any number of other name brands---all will serve you well. That Edge oil will never prove to be 10 times better than other name brands and quality products.

I've been running Rotella in all our diesels for several years. Good stuff.

Use any oil with a rating of CI. CI+, or CJ with confidence. The only real issue is your ambient operating temperature. My Ford 7.3 calls for 10W-30 below 20F, and 15W-40 above. Castrol edge is a very good oil for a gas engine.

   / OIL QUESTION #15
I have a 29 HP TYM diesel Tractor with a backhoe.

Can I use Castrol Edge in this machine or should I use something else?

As a auto tech and shop owner I hang out on another site which has a couple oil experts often weigh in.

My advice, don't get hung up on brands or fancy claims, look at the specs. you need and the specs the oil meets. Beware of wiggle phrases like, "suitable for".

It either meets specs, or it doesn't. If I recall correctly Castrol is noted for using wiggle phrases.
