My owners manual states 15W-40 SF/CD oil, I know those are obsolete specs. But it goes on to state after SF/CD "series 3 oil". I personally have never heard of such, have any of you guys (maybe gals) ever heard of this. Could be a misprint or whatever, it is an '07 tractor, I was kind of laughing when I first read the "CD" part, I contacted them about that, they said I need to run a CI-4+. Didn't think to ask about the series 3 part.

thanks

I'm in the oil business and I can't say I have heard of "series 3 oil" before. Might it be specefic to the manufacturer of the equipment? What kind of tractor?

Just took a look at the operators manual for my AC 5020 and heres what is says,,,,, CD (DS Series 3 ) class oil, SAE 30. The manual is the original AC and the tractor was purchased in 1985. I haven't found this exact spec oil in years, I figured they just renamed it. I just use Rotella diesel oil and have for years. Things seem fine.

I can remember using a Series 3 oil in Cummins and Cat diesel trucks back in the late '70's and early '80's. We usually used Delo or Rotella. The Series 3 oils were the premium diesel rated oils at the time.
