I want to get a supply of oil to have on hand when needed for my CK30. What "easy to find" brands do you use? For engine crankcase I see the manual calls for motor oil with API Service Classification CC or CD. So far I have not found any with the code at the local Walmart. Am I looking in the wrong place?

What brand do you use for hydraulic oil? Again, where is the best place for me to look.

Check with your local dealer, I am sure they can help you with your oil selection. We get oil from our local BP bulk plant. The hydro oil is castrol UTF and the engine oil is castrol 15-40. Castrol provides this oil to many different brands to market under many names.

My dealer is out of the country so bought locally. I went to our local Chevron wholesaler when getting all the oils for my 50 hour change. Bought case lot so have some left over to use. I think as long as you are getting a good brand you should be ok. I spent too much money on my 2008 CK35 to go cheap on oil or grease. Sure better off to spend a bit for good product than replace or repair an engine. I've been pretty good about checking oil levels regularly, both for engine and HST and haven't had to top up yet, have 182 hours on it now.

The diesel rated Shell Rotella is used in many many many commercial applications and is what I have been using happily. Someday I may choose to switch to a synthetic but for the past 200hrs it has been Rotella with zero issues.

Choose a current diesel spec oil rated CI-4+ or CJ-4 and sleep easy. Then pick up some UTF in the price range of your liking and never worry. For name brands available at walmart Rotella and Delvac both have excellent product lines. You will never be able to find a CC/CD oil on the shelves and if you did I would not use it. From a global stand point a spec that low makes finding a adequate product easier. The CC/CD spec have been out of date for a long time now in the U.S. If you have a schaeffer's retailer they also make outstanding products but they are not carried in walmart and cost roughly the same.

I would not recommend using an oil rated for gasoline engines that are also rated CF.

I am using the Amsoil synthetic blend in my DK 45, also use it in the Mule, Ferris, and my Toyota Tundra. Think it is 15-45, have never had any problems with start-up in any of the vehicles and we can get some pretty cold weather.

Is there a tribologist in the house?

....or is there anybody out there who actually trusts that the oil in a bottle is up to the standard defined by the service rating printed on the label? I'm not an engineer and don't know a lot about oil, but I don't know how many angels can stand on the head of a pin either. What I do know is that spending extra money on oil that goes miles beyond what is needed is wasteful; the phrase diminishing returns comes to mind. I don't mean to advocat going cheap....just not overboard either.

I'm not a troll, honest! I'm just opinionated. The difference is the intent. :)

I believe that the label indicates what is in the bottle. I use Chevron delo 400 15-40 in all of my diesels including the Kioti which burns no oil at all after 850 hours.

For the trans I use valvoline UTF from Napa.

There may be cheaper and surely there is more expensive oil but buying commonly available name brand oil of the proper or higher rating is acceptable to me.

You question that the product in the bottle meets the printed specs then suggest going cheap on the oil.

If you use any of the major oil brands you have little to fear that what is inside the bottle does not meet its specs. If you are going so cheap that you use off brands or store brands then you may have a reason to question the product in the bottle.
