none.... YET!
I'm interested in a Satoh Elk 550G. How hard is it to get parts? It has the Mazda engine.

How big of a deal is a lack of downpressure in the 3pt? I would like to dig some postholes...

He's asking $1950.00 and sez everything works, comes with a 60" belly mower and a snowblade with hydraulic kit thats never been hooked up.

I haven't seen it yet nor seen pics. He's the original owner.

Also- How hard is it to find a FEL for one of these?

What do you say, Satoh-Lovers?

Ninja-Edit: Are parts pretty interchangeable between the 650g & 550g?

Perhaps you might find the info you require in the Brand Specific Forum in the TBN forums under the Main Index. Hope this helps. Also go on the website TractorData.com for additional specs and info.:):tractor:

I found your thread listed on Today's Posts. That is why I advised you to go to the main index and scroll down to Brand Specific Forums and go to Mitsubishi/Satoh.I thought your inquires might be included in that forum somewhere. Hopefully you will eventually find your answer.

None of the tractors in this size range have down-pressure for the three point hitch. So, normal auger use, whether on a showroom new Kubota/John Deere or a 70 year old N series is done without anything other than the auger's own weight and cutting head giving it downward force.

There are some products that adapt a hydraulic cylinder to apply downforce on the boom, but you should have good luck with it as-is if the tip is in remotely decent shape.

Don't be tempted to stand out by the auger head and push down on it, or lay/sit on the boom, or try to otherwise "help" it cut. It's deceptively dangerous. Just don't. You'll want to, but don't give in. If you need some assistance getting it to bite, take a pickaxe and get a little bit chipped out with the small tip where you want the center, then drop the bit into that niche.

There are folks who build loaders for anything, or sell all the main parts and require a local installer to build brackets.

I don't know anything about the Elk, but I have a tractor with the same engine as the bigger brother, the 650G. As gas engines go, it's pretty good. I got distributor parts at Napa, carburetor rebuild kits are available for it as well; I don't know if these are the same on the smaller Mazda engine.

Awesome, thanks so much for your insight! How happy are you with the 650?

Sorry, I was unclear. I have an International tractor with the Mazda gasoline engine. It's the same base engine that the 650G has.

Since the tractor isn't even a Mitsubishi, it's not really fair to make a comparison, but if I found one that ran well, I wouldn't be scared of the gasoline versions. The specifications on them are very good for gasoline motors so far as efficiency and the like go.

With the smaller version, like the Elk, I would imagine it is similar. Try everything out and see if it does what you want and need it to do.

Have you/are you looking at anything else? Do you have a baseline for comparison?
