Re: OK, Let\'s Hear Those Snow Reports!!

We had about 1" of snow and then some sleet and then freezing rain. Had to wait until 10 o'clock or so this morning for it to melt some to get the tractor out. Ripped that slit heater hose off the bottom edge of the back blade because I knew it would just ride up onto the ice.

Turned the blade around for blading going forward, as I had it turned around to drive backwards. Turned it one notch to kick the ice slush to the side. Made a pass down each side and then dropped the bucket and did the little bit left in the middle.

The snow plow left a mess in the cul-de-sac. So, I ran around it once with the blade and then used the bucket to pick up the slush piles left by the county plow.

Neither the blade nor the bucket dug into the pavement at all. I've a level indicator on the bucket; so, I can set it level every time to not dig in.

Only problem I had was the garage door. I'd opened it manually because the generater supplying power to the carriage house only powers the one door where my pickup is parked. On manual, the door didn't raise all the way. Hung it with my ROPS. Couldn't figure why the front of the tractor was raising up. Thought my bucket was hanging up on some ice. The ROPS was hanging up on the door. Propped the door up with a 2x4, and everything went fine then. Good reason to have a small tractor: a big one might have just ripped that garage door down. Little one didn't damage it.

The blade I have is a 5' Frontier.

The steering brakes on the 4010 came in handy 2 or 3 times, as the front wheels wanted to skid some in places.

Re: OK, Let\'s Hear Those Snow Reports!!

FINALLY, a little bit of snow. The 3-7" forecast for Friday morning through evening turned into 12" /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. Now up to 18-20" coverage!

Didn't get home from the VT Air Guard Base 'til nearly 2 a.m., helping with traffic and crowd control for the 600 returning Vermont National Guard troops. The tears of joy were nearly too much to take when "Chalk 4" finally made it in the hanger. So, I went out and directed traffic as they left...their minds weren't exatcly on which turn to take, to head home. God bless every one of them, and their families!.

Didn't get to clearing 'til today. 600' of drive, 12" of new snow, 47" front end blower...may be more fun than one man deserves (but I'll take it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif).

Tom

P.S. (So far, have not had to put on the rear chains. Gonna clear the wood road tomorrow...probably best if I put them on)
