OLD AIR COMPRESSOR OUT OF BREATH

I think my 39 Yr. old Monkey Wards air compressor is about on its last leg.
It don't run fast enough to pump up to the 100 Lbs. it's set for.
I'm lucky to get 20 or 30 Lbs out of it.
Anyone know how to tell if it's the motor or the compressor that's dragging it down?

more questions than answers,

Is the motor getting hot to the touch?
is the pump getting hot to the touch?
Is the belt slipping?
Are both pulleys tight on the shafts?
Is there oil in the pump?
have you put marvels mystery oil in the pump?
do you have an amp meter to see how much motor pulls with load?
with out load?
Do you really want to replace one and not the other on a 37 year old machine?

Are you saying:
1.) as it pumps up it slows down and quits or
2.) it pumps up too slowly.
3.) no matter how long it runs you only get up to about 25 lbs.

If #1 then either the motor is bad or a bad connection or something is binding.
A bad electrical connection can cause low voltage and over heating.
If a shaft is binding it will make the motor work too hard and over heat.
I f #2 could be a belt slipping, slightly worn rings, or wrong pulleys.
If #3 then it is leaking or very worn rings.
