Rotary Cutter old bush hog

I bought a old 4 ft. bush hog at a equipment sale I got it home put some 90wt in the gear box and cut a little patch of grass to see if it worked it works fine but it slung most of the gear oil out of the bottom seal after I opened the fill cap back up it looks to have had some grease gun grease in it so that's what I went back with. but if it still leaks how can I find the right bottom seal to go back with since I dont know the make or age .are most the same ?and how hard is it to replace the seals if I have to go that way

first - pull the seal and make sure it was in right side up.
I got my 5' mower cheap because the guy said it kept blowing the seal and that's what was wrong.
if it's in right, just take it to your local tractor supply shop and see what they have that's the same size/shape.

seals can be replaced generically by giving the supplier the OD the seal fits into ( measure with calipers ).. and the ID of the seal.. ( measure the output shaft with calipers ).. and the thickness of the seal... ( measure old seal.. or use a depth gauge..

Make sure if there is a vent ont he gear box that it is working.

I will look for a vent but kind of doubt it has one. the way it looked when I bought it is that its been sitting in a barn somewhere for years not in use it was rusty and dusty but the shaft still turned the blade Ive never worked on a bush hog and dont know how to replace the seals do I go in from the bottom or top

If the seal isn't damage you may be able read the number stamped on it.

in from the bottom - and I only know this because they guy who worked on mine showed me before he put it back together.

Vents are sometimes built into the fill plugs.. may look like a plug with a small sheetmetal 'cap' on it.. under the cap you will find the pug is drilled thru to the sump.. etc..
