I bought an old chipper shredder called 'Lil Chipper'. It has an 18hp engine that drives an 18" flywheel connected to rotating blades which do all of the chipping. It handles things within the 3"-5" range. Or so.
The blades are dull and I have sharpened ones that I would like to install. My problem is that I do not have an owners manual, and the company is no longer in business.
The mechanism is very simple. The blades attach to a rotating drum. I do not think that I will have any trouble removing the old blades and installing the new ones. But I do not know how closely I should adjust the blade to the mandrel (? - the thing opposite the blade).
Is there anyone that could give me a guess as to what that spacing should be?
I have absolutely no idea. Lacking any other advise I would probably take a look at what the gap is right now and maybe half the difference. Maybe someone has one of these old chippers, and has a manual of sorts with the specification outlined.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.
