Yeah that is interesting. It seems like I read a similar report a few years ago about another firearm that was found in the middle of no where.

Most likely, the guy sat down to take a rest and leaned the rifle against the tree. Then walked off to go to the bathroom and could not find the danged rifle. He had to have been ticked off about that. Or the Indians got him. :confused3::shocked::laughing::laughing::laughing:

I lost a decent knife when putting up no trespass signs. I KNOW where the knife was dropped but I will be danged if I can find it! Gots to borrow my FIL's metal detector.... Course I lost the knife about five years ago and still have not borrowed the detector.

That is a very interesting story. My great aunt was a Winchester. In fact she inherited millions but only bought a new quilt when she got the money. I used to love going to her farm for Sunday dinner because she was a great cook. Now it is true that I had to work for dinner since all she had was an old double wood stove and I had to chop wood and carry it in for her to cook with, but I thought that that made it taste even better.

Reminds me of the scene in Jeremiah Johnson when he finds his Hawken.

"I, Hatchet Jack, being of sound mind and broke legs, do leaveth my rifle to the next thing who finds it, Lord hope he be a white man. It is a good rifle, and kilt the bear that kilt me. Anyway, I am dead. Sincerely, Hatchet Jack."

Great story. Thanks for posting it. Maybe the owner was napping and a bear/mountain lion came along and he left in a hurry. lol Maybe the bear had lunch.

Hard to believe he just went home and did not notice the rifle was missing.

What is amazing is the Park Service guys are the first people to look in that area in over 130 years. Would have thought a hiker or someone else would have been in that area. Guess it is a large track and lots of nooks and crannies.

Dan things don't change, don't think you would be surprised on how often the PD gets called for a weapon left behind in a public restroom among other places.

It was empty. It was a popular gun. Why go to the trouble to carry it with no ammo.
