I guess everyone has there own idea what an old tractor is. I am talking about 25 years old and older. We still have a John Deere 2155 and a Massey Ferguson 165 Diesel on the farms. I like the new stuff but I prefer the old. Just seems like allot more raw power and pulls allot better than the new stuff. The new tractors are light from factory unless you ad rim guard or wheel weights. The old tractors are all iron. Heck you have to look hard to find plastic on them. About all you will find is a knob. This old stuff would just run and run. The old stuff brings back memories from my child hood of seeing these old horses out in the field. Back then John Deere,Oliver,Case, IH,MF, Allis Chalmers, and Ford farmed this country. I like the old two cylinder Deere's and other makes from that time frame also. I started out as a kid on an old Ford 2-N and a Ferguson TO-20. When I get old I would love to collect some old tractors and restore them. Long live old iron. How many of you have old iron?

Until a few years ago our newest tractor was a 49 farmall m. Also have a farmall 130 and a 706 farmall. So I'd say its safe to say we have some old iron.

I actually looked really long and hard at a 2155 with loader and 1800 original hours on it. This thing was close to being show condition and the price was the same as a new 2155 back in the day too. Guy wanted $22k and wouldn't come off it. I wanted it some kinda bad but I won't overpay for anything. I'm getting to where I'm buying clean old equipment for farm too. My oldest is a '76 ford 3600 and newest is a JD 6410 that will eventually be replaced by a 6420 or 6430. I also have a 4240 Deere with a 50 series engine in it.

The older I get the newer equipment I want. Have nothing against collecting old stuff but for show not work. I like my HST and power steering maybe I'm just tired of working on it. I like warrantys.

I have plenty of old iron that I have in various stages of restoration (see my tractor list to the left).

BTW: my 2008 Mahindra 5525 is an old school 55 hp (engine) tractor that is built almost entirely of steel and cast iron. No aluminum sheet. No plastic body parts.

Hope there will be old iron in your future. Hold on to your dreams

25 years? Old?

I have shoes older than 25 years (good ones too as I still wear them occasionally). I've been out of high school for over 50 years. I recently gave away a 1952 Ferguson that I USED for over 25 years. My motorhome is over 25 years old. I just traded in my 25 year old Toyota for a new one.

You better think twice about what you refer to as 'old' you young wippersnapper. :)

I too prefer new at my age.

My newest tractor is an '85 Ford 1510. It may not technically be "old iron", but it's still kind of reminiscent to the older stuff, compared to what's being sold now. It's my modern "Swiss Army Knife" grounds keeping tractor. All my digging, grappling, grading, brush cutting, snow removal, and loader work is done with it. Next, is my '57 Fordson Major Diesel. It does my field work, such as plowing, discing, baling, etc... it's a BEAST! Lastly, is my '46 McCormick Deering W4. It used to belong to my wife's father and we just re-acquired it this year. I'm hoping to get it running next spring and use it for planting, raking, light cultivating, grinding feed with the flat belt, and running our antique post hole digger.

The newer tractors are comfy, easy to use, powerful for their weight, and way out of my price range.

Besides, the old iron is just plain charming!
