I have been tractor shopping for close to a year and it's getting close to time to pull the trigger. I find myself stuck between buying an older one to save a little money or buying an early new one that has warranty left as well as more power etc. I have a new 2 acre with a big long driveway to clear in the winter and lots of grass to mow. Plus I planted about 175 trees to get a wind break. My widowed mother lives about a mile away with the same conditions and a 3 acre lot, plus three miniature horses and a couple beef cattle. I would be interested in getting into haying maybe in the future as I have a lot of experience with that from growing up on a farm in Iowa, and currently we hire it done.

As mentioned in the title the two specific machines I am looking at are a near new MF GC1705 ($12,500 asking - 150 hours) and the Kubota BX2200 ($6500 asking a 950 hours). I have driven and used the bx, but when I went to the dealer to drive the gc the oil was being changed and the deck leveled. I will likely go try again this weekend. They both come with loader and 60"deck. The go has the turf tires wich I'm not fond of, where as the go has the r4s.

Thanks in Advace for any and all advice!

Which has turfs?
If I was in your situation and they are both comparably equipped (FEL, 3pt, ROPS) I'd go for the BX2200 and save the $$ for the next tractor. You can't hay with either.
$12,500 is about what I paid for my M4700 in 2013.

I live in Washington state. Brand new 2017 gc1705's going for $10,997, 1710 is $15,441. Only reason I know I am looking at them right now

For $12,500 I would have bought the m4700 also above

I agree the GC price seems high - pretty close to a new one (considering it has the deck). Does it have the loader? I think there's room to negotiate. Do you know what year it is? The GC17xx received a higher lift capacity loader a couple of years ago (DL95 is the new one, DL100 is the old one). The GC is a nice machine and a bit beefier than the BX but I think for half price I'd get the BX for now assuming it's in decent condition. Or go for a bigger one right away.

Sorry, autocorrect. The BX has the turf tires and the GC has the R4s. The GC does have the drive over deck and the DL95 loader and is a 2015. Both of the prices I mentioned were asking prices so I believe there is room to negotiate. I did quote a new GC1705 from the local massey dealer and he was $14000 with drive over deck and dl95 loader. That was cash price. I didn't work him to hard to get him to come down though, so maybe I could get it lower?

Powerguy are your prices including the 60"drive over deck and the DL95 loader?

I started out looking at 40-60hp tractors but decided to go smaller because I have access to a nice mfwd Massey 390 w/ westendorf loader, and a International 674. This way I have something to do small chores with as well as mow and clear snow. If I ever have big projects just need to go to my brother. I live in Rural Iowa and seeing a tractor as small as BXs, 1 series, GCs etc is really rare because there are so many friendly farmers that help out with their larger stuff etc.

A BX2200 with loader and mower deck for $6,500 would sell in about 3 hours in my area. Don't wait until this weekend if you really want it.

The GC is nice sure but at that price you're better off buying new. Consider a brand new LS MT125 with loader and mower deck is only $12,300 or so from my local dealer. That's with a 6 year powertrain warranty.

Dealer actually does not recommend drive over deck, he said spend $3,000 on zero turn and you will be happier and get done faster

Dealer Just sold a used gc1715 that was a repo with 40 hours on it for $11,999 had some dents in it

Here is a link of dealer near me KIPERTS TRAILER SALES | Tractors

I simply don't understand. The link shows BRAND NEW 2017 gc1705s with loaders for 10,997.

Add a deck to that and you have brand new with 5 year warranty and a bunch of finance incentives and low interest rates. Why would you screw around with a used GC?

A deck is going to sell for 1800 to 2300 depending on the size.

Local dealer here currently has a number of GCs listed. The prices seem lower than they have been in the past. All brand new. $8550 for a 1705 without loader or joystick, $9584 for a 1715 without loader but with joystick, $10929 for a 1705 with loader, 11900 for a 1715 with loader, $15255 for a 1710 TLB, and $16650 for a 1720 TLB. Note these are all cash prices that likely work with some incentivized interest financing but not with 0%. I'm sure there is some negotiating potential still. He only has 2326 decks listed for $2467. Not sure how good a price that is. I agree with the previous comment though to invest the deck money into a zero turn. I didn't get a deck for mine mainly since I didn't want to deal with removal of loader/backhoe/mower when switching tasks. Instead I'm using a semi-decent '95 Deere rider I got with the house. I don't have room to store a nicer zero turn and the rider is still working ok. Also I can use it without rutting the lawn even after rain due to less weight than the GC and it's more stable in slopes.

Agree with other posters, that price for the GC1705 is way too high.
