The Oliver tractors are far from orphan tractors. Oliver Corp. sold plows beginning in 1868. The Hart-Parr company which was bought by Oliver in 1929 was the first to coin the term "tractor" for the 1903 Hart-Parr number 3. The no. 3 is owned by the Smithsonium and was restored in 2003. Oliver was the first American tractor with independent pto, early experimentation and refining of diesel engines. Oliver produced thousands of tractors through the end of the production run in 1975. The heritage continues :cool with the White tractors and recently the AGCO company. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I can buy every nut and bolt from the ground up for my Ford N series tractors ( 39-52 ) Some parts are NOS, some are reproduction, and some are still manufactured and aftermarketed .
I have not seen this level of parts support in ANY other company save Deer... and that goes for oliver.
When i go to buy a tractor, I call the dealer and/or other parts suppliers.and run by them a few 'what' if' parts.. if they are NLA.. I generally don't get the tractor.
I would look close at tranny gears on that tractor.. and for availability / price...
Also if it has a over/under two speed, check into to parts for that, and hold on. It could be replaced with a later three speed from a salvage yard, but is still expensive. They were good tractors but support for them has not been maintained. The later White tractors retained some of the same componets, ie 2-85, 2-105, or is a 1655 more like a 2-70. If it has a Waukesaw engine that is also a no-no. If it is Perkins, that is good.

Ron, you will get even more help on this question at ytmag.com. There are a bunch of Oliver nuts there waiting for you. The 1655 does have a Waukesha engine. No matter whether gas or diesel it is Waukesha. This model has the 283 cube motor and is a reliable engine. The bad ones spoke about in a previous reply are 310s in the early 1855 Olivers. They were Waukeshas also. You should find out how to check out the front drive axle. Can be costly. Parts are available but are getting scarce. oliverinformation.com is a good starting point for links to parts and a great Oliver magazine. Transmissions are stout but not syncronized. Does it have over/under hydraul shift? If so, it is three ranges for a six speed tranny, giving you eighteen forwards and six reverses. Does the tractor have a cab? Fender tanks? Hooked on ether? Good luck & give updates.
Thanks for all your replies, based on these replies on this and other forums I have decided to not buy this tractor. Appreciate the time you guys gave in replying to my question
