It helps prevent scalping on uneven ground. Imagine you are driving across (not over) the crest of a small bump, the roller keeps the middle of the mower from digging in.

I'd highly recommend one on anything 48" or bigger. It certantly won't hurt anything.

I have a very favorable impression of First Choice and that's now my... well... my first choice when I'm looking to buy a new piece of equipment. I've often described them as Landpride or better quality at closer to a King Kutter price and still believe that to be accurate.

As to warranty, I am usually more concerned with the integrity of the people with whom I'm dealing than the number of pages of "whereas'es" and "heretofor's" any written agreement offers. I've been impressed with Pieter at First Choice and have no qualms about dealing with him. I feel I can be comfortable with First Choice based on his word and nothing more.

As to whether or not they'll be in business in a year or two, while no one can say for sure, I sure believe they will. They build a quality product, sell it at a very, very competative price and stand behind it. If they're maintaining profitability, which I would think they are, they should be around for a long time.

To answer your question directly, while I can't tell you what you should do with your money, I would go with the FC product and put the extra cash in my pocket. I think you'll have at least as good a mower if not better than the LP and, besides, you can get it to match your tractor. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Good luck with whatever you decide. I hope this helps. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I have a 60 inch Landpride rear finish mower with the front roller and it works great. I have to mow close to some shallow ditches and needless to say I end up dropping a mower wheel over the edge and the center roller keeps the mower blades from digging into the lawn. Same thing occurs if a wheel drops into a gopher hole or something. Makes a big difference!

I have a 72 inch rear mounted, rear discharge, finishing mower made by Sitrex.
It appears to be a well built machine at a very reasonable price an I'm pleased with it..

I've seen it priced from $1395 to $1695 dependent what time of the year it
was an if the dealer had it in stoke. If you live in snow country there is a
definite advantage in buying your lawn equipment during the fall an winter months...

I prefer the rear discharge mower as it spreads the clippings evenly an doesn't windrow
if you cut the grass regularly...

I believe the mower is manufactured in Italy but half the dealers in' my area carry
this line...

I'd like to add, I'm in no way connected with the company

Sitrex finishing mower page.

I own a 6 ft FC and have used it 2 years with no problems. I do run the solid tires, simply because, I dont have time to fix flats. I know a air tire setup would probably perform somewhat better on uneven terrian. The optional anti scalp roller is a + for uneven field conditions.

Thanks everyone, I placed the order for the First Choice today. Just too much money to leave on the table for what appears to be a very similar mower. My credit for the overcharge just about covers it so I get a great Christmas present.

Thanks again for the input.

BTW, got the air filled tires and the front roll bar.

I didn't think so. A couple of hundred bucks and yes I got it assembled. They said the shipping would be less if unassembled since they don't have to be so "careful" with it on the truck.

Looking forward to it.
