How close are those online "Build it yourself" prices to what you actually paid for your new tractor? They seem more like a List Price that I would expect a dealer needs to beat in order to get my business.......... was yours higher; lower; about the same?

thanks

Which prices are your refering to? Please give some examples.

Those on-line or build-it-yourself ones are MSRPs. When I was looking for a 4010, the on-line prices were about $12k+. Dealers were selling them for just below $10k. I and another master gardener bought ours for about the same price. Think they were offering these prices because of the upcoming 2320 and 2520 models at the time.

Go to a couple dealers who deal in the size tractor you want (actually, I got the same quote from another dealer who dealt mainly in bigger tractors though). A third dealer gave me the MSRP. I went with the dealer who is nearest to me. He's been okay.

This is a link to the John Deere website where you can build your own tractor and it provides an online quote. Even includes implement pricing, etc....

I just don't know if a dealer quotes this exact price, should I assume that they are pushing me to pay List Price if I am dumb enough or willing..........or should I press them to "do better than that"?

by all means, most dealers will sell to you lower then list. i used another dealers price as a bargaining chip with the dealer I wanted to purchase from, they met the price and also offered a modest discount on attachments. imo, never pay list price. out of all the dealers, though JD was the tightest when it came to lowering list price.

happy hunting,

If the JD dealer quotes that price (MSRP) you should walk out. :)

My JD2305 with attachments had a "build" price of ~$15.7K and a buy price of $12,780.

Get a list of dealers in your area and call them or stop in with a list of exactly what you want. They'll shoot you a price and you can go from there. Good Luck!

I just bought a JD 3720 cab with FEL and extras (3 sets of rear hydraulics, radio, tool box, front hydraulic disconnects etc. After some haggling with salesman, I got 15% off of MRSP, everything installed and put on, delivered and no set up fees. Some of that stuff takes a while to install. Took them about 1.5 days to install everything. 15% is a good number to aim for with JD but will vary on your area, what is in stock, model .... The state of MN contract price for a CUT is 25% off list with JD. I ordered mine and it arrived in 5 days.

Not in the Albany, NY area. I went to one dealer and called the other. Both responded in the same manner - NOTHING!!! Cash in hand means nothing around here - they have money trees and don't need the business.

I bought a Massey Ferguson GC2300 and am very happy with the tractor and the dealer. The dealer even calls every now and then to see if everything is OK and if I need anything. No sales pressure, just good customer relations.:)
