OPEN OR CLOSED HYDRAULIC SYSTEM

I have a Kubota 1992 model M4030SU 50hp with a front end loader and single hydraulic hook ups on the rear. I am thinking about buying a rear mount Wood Splitter. One of the splitters that I was looking at said that they provided a spool to convert the hydraulics from an open to a closed system. I have a lever on the right side of the seat that controls the rear hydraulics and a Joy stick on the right side of the steering wheel to control the front end loader. My question is 1) What is an open/closed system? 2) Will I be able to operate the wood splitter with the control lever on the splitter or will I have to use the current lever beside the seat?. I do know that when raising the front end loader and the 3 point hitch at the same time, the 3 pt hitch will stop until I stop raising the front end loader then it will resume lifting the implement. I just need some advice on this before I spent the money on the wood splitter...THANK YOU in Advance..... Belah

Your tractor hyd system is an open center hyd system, so get the log splitter with open center valve.

You can use the output of the rear remotes to plug in the log splitter.

You could also install a dedicated PB line for the log splitter using the PB from the remotes to feed the splitter. .

This PB line for the splitter will interrupt the line going to the 3pt, and will provide flow to the splitter.

When not using the splitter, jumper the PB line to the 3pt input.

The 3pt stops because the FEL is using all of the fluid.

You could use half lever and use both at the same time.

JJ, how can you tell if your splitter has an open or closed center system.

Use air in the IN port.

If no air is passing through the valve in neutral, the valve is a closed center valve.

If air is passing through to the OUT port, then it is an open center valve.

I have a 2003 BX2200. Can I assume it also has open center hyd system? Want to put grapple on front end and everythingattachments says theirs requires an open center hydraulic system. Thanks. A great forum.
