Hi guys,

Here's a stupid newby question. I just got a 5 gal pail of Kubota SUDT. The spout has what appears to be a metal seal ring that needs to be broken to be able to pull up the spout. Is this right? I'm only familiar with pails of stuff like sheetrock mud where you cut the slots around the rim of the entire top of the pail. I have to admit that I don't know how to open the spout on this thing! Of course, no instructions on tha pail or label. Please advise!

Yes, take the metal ring off first. On the spout there is a plastic pull ring that is used to pull the spout out of it's recessed position. When you pull it up it will stick up approximately 2 inches. There should be a cap that screws off the spout. Don't take the whole lid off until empty. You can buy a cheap pump for a five gallon pail that will fit in the spout. The pump should have a clear flexible tube to put into the fill spout on the tractor. If you don't want to buy a pump, I have set the pail on it's side with the spout at the top, then have a jug or other vessel ready when I take the cap off the spout. As the oil level gets lower, just roll the pail over a little until you fill your container. Hope this helps.

To add to this. This keeps it from chugging as air enters the pail to replace the oil draining out.

You can also buy cheap extenssion nozzles that screw onto the spout on the bucket. They extend the 2 inch spout to about 8 inch's.

If you want to get real fancy you can buy a bucket top pump. It replaces the lid of the bucket, has a lever pump handle and a long flexible tube with a metal 90 degree end on it. Even these can be bought for around $45-50.

Thanks guys. Does the metal ring just pry up, or does it need to be cut?

There should be a tab on the metal to pull up with a pair of pliers. Otherwise just tear the metal off and you'll see a plastic screw-on top. Remove it and there should be a plastic seal with a pull tab on it. Pull up on the tab to remove it and then screw the cap back on. Pull up on the cap to extend the nozzle.

Ok, the trial and error method for those that may have the same question.....

Ones does NOT cut or disturb the metal ring!! Inside the metal ring is a plain, solid, white plastic disk. This disk is gently pried up and off with the tip of a screwdriver. Underneath it is the pull-up handle for the spout. The pull-up handle is made into the screw off top for the spout.

BTW, this is a "Reike FlexSpout".

Thats what I was thinking, but w/o seeing his particular case, I thot maybe SUDT pails were set up differently in some way that I was not visualizing correctly. Hope it isnt screwed up yet.
