Ok, what is the exact sequence of making your Rear Pto work (for woodchipper) without you being on the machine... I know I've made this work numerous times in the past (about a year ago)...

I've told the dealer I had problem making it work by itself....
Then they told me a few weeks later there was nothing wrong with it, and they had it going by itself in the shop... so something in my sequence was wrong....

What is it that I'm doing wrong: (remember this is Ehydro Cab Tractor)....

Yes, I've read the manual over, and over and over..... just in case I'm dyslexic....

Deere manuals are written by engineers, who should stick to engineering. If there is one thing about Deere that grinds my gears, its the dang manual - especially the index in the back..... arrrggghh..... ANYWAY.
Sit in seat, put in neutral, apply parking brake (press brake pedals, pull the red knob above the key) and turn on PTO while sitting there, then leave cab.

My bud with 4720 had same question and I got it to work 2 weeks ago. Let me know if this works.

Make sure gear range selector is in Nuetral and Engauge PTO after you are off the seat.
Those are the only two things I could see that might keep it from running.

Thanks... that's all I needed to know...

So mine still isn't working after being up to the dealers! They brought the tractor back to me, just because we were expecting some snow... but you would think since they've had it up there for about a month that they would have fixed that issue...

You may actually have to be off the seat before you pull up the pto knob. That how mine works.

1. Neutral
2. Set Parking Brake
3. Get butt off the seat
4. Pull Up on pto knob
5. Get out of cab Without putting any weight on the seat

I have a different tractor (4310) but mine you start it off the seat.

I think you're right and that's how my 2520 works too. It wants to "know" that you are off the tractor and intentionally turning on the PTO, as opposed to falling off while it's running.

EDIT: I take it back - that's what I get for shooting from the hip. My manual sez: 1. sit on the seat, 2. lock park brake, 3. move transmission range shift lever to N, 4. start engine, 5. set speed to 1500 or less, 6. move PTO lever to rear only, 7. pull PTO knob on dash up, 8. adjust engine speed as desired.

I'm still thinking you can turn the PTO on/off without being on the tractor though once you have it set up in that configuration.

On a 4110 and similar machine, you swing the seat forward and pull up on a black button that's normally under the seat.

My 4010 has that button, but it wouldn't work. I jumper wired it so it would, but something happened to the jumper connections.

I just use a tension cord to hold the back of the seat back so that it pushes on the safety button underneath the seat. This way with my chipper/shredder, I can run it around to stuff needing shredding and then just jump on the seat and drive to another spot without having to shut the PTO off.

With the 2520 The key is to be in neutral and set the parking brake. After that you can engage or disengage the PTO as required.
