Opinion needed will I be happy with a 490# grapple?

I could not find the weight of standard duty bucket for the LA854. I am quite sure it is much lighter than the grapple a local dealer is pushing.. While the LA854 does a decent job strength wise I don't want to "over grapple" it with a grapple weight that will noticably reduces my lifting power. My "trigger" finger is getting itchy

What tractor do you have that loader on? I would guess that with the loaders ability your 490 pound grapple is about two thirds the right size. Are you looking at a 72 inch grapple? A good medium to heavy duty 72 inch bucket should weigh around 700 pounds.
You are not going to run out of lift getting a heavy grapple, you will run out of inherent strength if you get a light weight bucket. A bent up grapple is not much good.

Thanks for the input Kenny.. I have Grand L5240 with HST+, and LA-854 loader. The grapple I am looking at is the Long OBG2 64" grapple with 2 grapple rams...

I originally inquired on the OBG2 48" with one grapple ram, it only weighs 357#.. The dealer talked to the folks at Nelson they told him the for the additional 133# I would be better off with the 64" .. Only want to do this one time.

I don't know if the wife would buy the story I need a new M-59 because I bought too heavy grapple for the 5240

I think I would step up about 200 pounds more and look at their RBGD-66.
With your tractor and that loader you will not notice any difference in over all lift ability with a heavier bucket. On the other hand you will notice the results of a too lightly built grapple. KennyV.
