Looking at a tired skid steer for mulching. The Deere has good specs...and opinions on them or any others? Gehl 7810, Cat 272, Bobcat S330??? others?

Ive only used the CT322 and CT332. Deere makes a nice product. I did some research and the CT322 has the same lift capacity as the 332 tire unit. I have used the CT322 for lots of things and it doesnt like to move the 2 1/2 ton pallets of natural stone. I did hear that the tire unit tips easier with heavy loads. Go to The Skid Steer Smackdown! and watch what Deere equipment can do.

The skidsteer smackdown convinced my dad and step mom to go Deere. I do love the power that Deere provides at you fingertips. Oh, the picture on the side box is their Deere CT322.

A few questions. Do you plan on running over the tire tracks or as is? And from the specs the tractor looks good. The plow and pressure are alittle backwards, higher flow and lower psi. I personally like higher psi but I bet we could get a good tune with what that tractor puts out.
The only thing that concerns me is they fail to mention the hyd tank capacity. If it is under 20 gal. which I suspect you might have to add a cheap cooler to get a little more fluid and cooling capacity. With 41 gpm it will be really turning the fluid over alot.
Besides that have at it. Try a rental-purchase to better cover yourself. If tires don't work out right then trade for a track version.
I have heard of I think Greensouth selling a few Deere's with loftness heads. They must be doing fairly well, I haven't heard any crying yet.

Just looking for options for the next machine. I will run steel track over the tires, I am hoping it will be cheaper to run then the ASV. I see you have set up a few Cat 272 models...I'm just looking at all the options...

Here's what I've seen and concluded on the surface for a few brands.
1. Cat and Bobcat have similar radiator placement. You really have to keep after them to keep them debri free. A have run a 272C with both over the tire tracks and the VTS. I honestly like the VTS. Very simple and it gives a bit of gear reduction that helps the tractor. Also gives the 272C more stability and ground clearance.
2. Gehl 7810, I have run for about an hour. I wasn't sure what the h.p. rating was but I thought it was supposed to be 115. I didn't measure flow but the psi was down a bit. Maybe with some tuning to raise the psi some it would be good. I have seen them used in Tx. but you don't really hear much about them.
3. The new Tak. TL150,, With Supertrak having modified them for cooling and adding a high flow pump they hold up pretty well. Tracks are alittle cheaper and last alittle longer. So that should make the new TL250 a new contender. SSP&M have amost 5000 hrs on there's and it's still running.

You can't put any money in your pocket when the tractor has it's hand out all the time.

The Gehls used to be 115hp , but are now a tad under 100 . Any word on the steel tracked Bobcats ? Are Terex/ASV or Cat following suit ? Did Bobcat up the hp , flow and pressure to complement the steel tracks and make it a mulcher proposition ?

This year has been really bad for the ASV (1510 hrs), many hours lost to mechanical failures. I have a good amount of work but just too much down time and this past week I found a broken spring on the trailer...

I have just put my name on a Daewoo 175 excavator, financing went through and now ordering the DC head (125D) is in the works. I want to get rid of the ASV and run a tired machine with tracks for the second machine. I know I will miss the low ground pressure machine and the climbing ability but untill thing pick up a cheaper tired machine will have to do. The daewoo and DC will be the main machine for jobs over 5+/- acres.

If I ever do buy another ASV it will be replaced yearly.

Was told from the factory the Takeuchi TL250 will need extra cooling package for mulching in high temps.....$6000 factory installed option.

Iron Horse - I think the flow and pressure are the same...the steel tracks cost another 10k, I'm not sure it is cost effective to spend that much more. My local dealer said they won't stock one

First, good choice on the excavator head.:D
Second I have some food for thought. When you get your excavator running you will be amazed at what you can cut with it. You will be equally pleased at how stress free you can mulch. There isn't any dedri flying at the tractor, you want have to stop and clean the hoods off, and you can see trouble before the heads takes a huge bite. Plus you will be surprised at what you can accomplish with it. So I would suggest sitting on your ASV for now. See how your new toy works out and then what direction might be best. You may find with the excavator taking a big load the ASV will be backup and/or a finisher. Plus with the ASV and excavator either machine can fill in for the other most of the time.

What are you going to do with your small excavator? And I'll throw in another idea. You become the excavator guy and team up with someone with a skid steer and use each other. Most large mulching outfits consist of that combination. Choose carefully, but it can work.

I think your excavator will give your ASV a run for it's money.
