Dont live in MA, so dont know the laws.

Where you live, is it actually illegal to shoot a firearm? is it actually illegal to hunt/kill coyote if thats what you wanted to do?

Or are you just worried about some neighbor needlessly calling the police for something that isnt illegal at all?

Cause if thats the case, and you are well within your right.....personally I'd blast away with whatever I had that was the loudest.

Fear of neighbors calling the law for something you are well within your right to do should be no reason to change your mind.

Now if it is illegal, or you are within city limits or something....then yea....the air rifle.

Holly ****.... slingshots illegal? Glad I live in a state with less regulation.

Perfert for the quietness vs velocity/bullet weight ratio for little critters...

Some air rifles are capable of breaking the sound barrier. Make sure you use a heavy pellet to avoid that because it's loud.

My brother lives in MA now. Talking with him, I'd never choose to live there. Even archery gear is restricted, and he has to label his arrows with name and address for the 'just in case you go crazy'.
Nope.

"9. There is no requirement to mark arrows with the owner's name or address. That requirement was removed from the hunting laws many years ago."

But, yeah, MA is not a good state to live in.

I have a 22-cal air rifle -- it's a break-barrel single shot, with a nitrogen piston (aka, "gas spring") -- about 1000 fps muzzle velocity. Even with a silencer barrel it's quite loud though, so I don't see much advantage to it if noise is a concern. For varmit/critter control I am more likely to go for my 9mm pistol or shotgun since I don't have to worry about noice or restrictions here.
