Opinions regarding diesel UTV\'s

Fellow Posters,

First, Merry Christmas to all! Our family is preparing to have our first Christmas with our new twins, now five months old, for which we are most thankful. As some may know, I recently traded for a JD diesel Gator, which I like a lot in the two hours of use it has. I have yet to post pictures but when things settle a bit I will. My question is: to those who have used/bought more than one brand of UTV, how does this machine compare to others like the Kubota and Polaris (Yamaha too for those out there)? I did read the recent posted review where the JD scored less points, but those were the gasoline versions, not the diesel. Having used both types before buying, the diesel is no faster but feels a lot stronger and perhaps a better direct comparison with some of the other UTV's. The areas I about which I inquire are hauling, off road and stability in that environment, and durability. I am not brand loyal- but I am dealer loyal- so it would not affect me that much. I am surprised how many times I am asked about these machines because I have some basic TRACTOR knowledge. I know some about the UTV's, but not as much and wanted to give good advice to others about which ones to more strongly consider. I do realize much of this is opinion, but opinions count, and I would like to hear an update from the panel. Thanks again.

Re: Opinions regarding diesel UTV\'s

I have a gas powered JD HPX and for how I use it there isn't a problem. (only 19 hours in twelve months). If I was going to use it "hard" I would have went diesel but I could not justify the cost difference based on how I planned to use it. For me the Kubota RTV is the top of the line unit and if I was going to use one for heavy towing and loading is probably what I would have went with. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

i agree very strongly with jd, kabota rtv or even the gator pro series which is about 15,000.

Re: Opinions regarding diesel UTV\'s

i have no complaints about my gas hpx 4x4. and it never let me down yet! i'm sure the diesil would be alot more powerful but i just could not pass up the deal i got on my gas one.as for as comparing it to other utv's i guess it's like better than the rtv because i think it will go through more mudd than a rtv and it can be used for a little bit of play and not just work .thats the biggest downfall to the rtv it's heavy and just made for work. the rhino is nice but it's more on the sporty side it can't haul nuthin so as for all around utv's that leaves you with two the mule and the gator and i would rather have the gator(hpx)that is.sure there are others but those are the main players right?? stick with the hpx gator to me it's an all around utv or go with a mule.
