Hi,
We are in San Diego, north county.
Engine rebuild questions:
We've got a Massey-Ferguson 1035, 3-cyl. diesel, 31-horsepower, 4WD. Dealer says it probably came out in 1986. At first he thought it was an Iseki engine, but then checked the books and it came up as a Toyosha engine. Apparently MS hasn't dealt with Toyosha for 15 years or so(?). The engine is apart. One piston was burned out, but we think the camshaft is okay, and the cylinder head just needed planing.
I've been unsuccessful locating a replacement or rebuilt motor or a full rebuild kit for this thing. My questions are?
1) Where is a good source for a rebuild kit?
2) Where is a good source for a rebuilt motor?
3) CAN I SUBSTITUTE A DIFFERENT ENGINE that'll match up to the transmission housing? If so, which one(s)?
Transmission question:
Tractor 'died' while PTO was engaged for mowing deck. Now it won't go into neutral. My 81-year old neighbor, a farmer all his life, and owner of a 1950s' Massey that he still uses, tells me abrupt gear changes causing the transmission to get stuck in gear were a known issue on his model since new, and all he's done (for fifty years!) is screw open an access cover and wedge the gears apart with a bar in a matter of seconds. This may surprise you, but there were a few design changes between the mid-50s' and mid-80s', so I can't tell how to access mine from what he showed me on his. I'm handy with a tool, but not trained. You guys got an theories or possible solutions on being stuck out of neutral? Engaging/disengaging the PTO lever has no effect. Only other clue is the clutch was replaced by a non-tractor mechanic a couple of months before engine went. Clutch still feels proper though, not stuck.
