To me, the price of OEM parts for these machines is ridiculous. Worse than way back when I had an inboard/outboard motorboat. It's all about demand and there are just too many old Boomers riding tractors for fun. So jobbers price the parts as they would for a recreational vehicle. My "tongue in cheek" observation of the day.

HEY! I'm not that old...

... besides, I thought that it was all 'tractor fun'. :grumpy:

I've ever needed to buy one part for a tractor and was amazed how inexpensive it was. Haven't had your same experience.

Parts have been stupid $$ for a long time.

Stuff costs money. Especially stuff that has to be engineered and made out of steel in small(ish) quantities.

The older I get, the more expensive I feel like everything is. You might be farther along that curve than I am.

It used to be cars, we would mod them and race them, the parts were pricey but could be purchased. The killer was the law stepped on street racing. Then we took to the water cause the DNR aint gonna complain when you do 80 across the lake. The parts were more expensive because the had to be made to marine specifications and there were fewer "old junkers" you could pull from. This drove demand and prices went up. Now we are older. Im 51 so Im not too old to still be dangerous. I can afford a few acres, and a riding lawn mower no longer cuts it. The SCUT works out in my arsenal of tools for so many jobs. I often wonder why I ever bought a riding mower when I could have had a SCUT that not only cuts the grass but can muck the stalls, move the hay, till the land, scrape down the drive way, and thankfully not for me move snow. In the estate real estate market the SCUTs are 10 times what the other equipment combined is simply because of the versatility and the addition of hydraulics.

Would it be fair to assume that my 1983 Ford 1100 was the world's first SCUT?

I try and warn people about the cost of parts for UTVs. I don't think it gets any worse!

Kind of on a related note. Remember when a Jeep was a Jeep and what it stood for? I was listening to a Radio Commercial the other day about Jeep. You know what the focus of the Ad was? Blue Tooth and USB equiped! I really don't know what to say!

Way back I remember govt surplus Jeeps advertised in the back of Popular Mechanics for $400. Not sure if it was gimmick or not. Could care less for blue tooth or USB in a vehicle. Drive. Get where you're going. Then play blue tooth and texting.

My first Jeep was a mid 50's Willys Wagoneer. The one out front now is also a wagon but quite a bit different. It would be a much nicer vehicle to own and drive if we could eliminate some of the automatic safety features.....Can't even sit with the drivers door open and listen to the radio without a warning buzzer....When trying to hook up the trailer, the tailgate locks when we move the truck to line up the trailer ball.
