'other room' phone line adapter

Back in 1999 when i lived in a diofferent house, we had a gadget, probably from radioshack, that you plugged in to an electrical outlet, near a phone jack, plugged the phone cord into it, and then you could go just about anywhere in the house, and plug in another box into the power outlet, and then plug a phone into it, just like there was an outlet there. Worked good. I've actually seen them at radioshack and other places along the years but never kept up.

I'm in need of one now, and called the local ratschack, and they only sell them mail order now. Anyone know if another store like walmart, target, best buy, circuit city, kmart, office depot or staples will have this gadget? Those are the stores i have available in my area that I can check today... Really need to get it today if possible. Just has to run plain telephone.. no modem or anything. Preferably I'd like to get a kit with 1 base, and 2 remotes... I've seen those too.. but again.. don't remember where.. and with gas prices like they are, and those stores i mentioned pretty much spaced out in a 3 city area.. it would be lots of driving to check em. Seems like if you call them.. the teenagers running the answering service don't know what they carry.. so what they tell you is hit or miss.

You can check out any place that sells satellite dish equipment, but my preference would be to pick up one of the multi-room cordless phones. You plug the base-station in at the phone jack and then you can have a bunch of phones around the house that only need a power jack for the charger and they talk to the base station.

Here's an example system in case I didn't explain it well enough.

I know what you are talking about.. however, 1, I wouldn't want to trash all my other existing phones, and 2, I need this for a satalite reciever system.. so a wireless phone with a cople bases won't do me much good.

Ah, that's different. The connection in a satellite box is more or less a modem connection. I found this at Home Depot, may be worthwhile to check out the local stores to see if they've got one in stock.

Yes.. technically a modem.. but it will connect thru a phone line extender.. etc.

At one time I know Walmart and Best Buy sold what you are talking about, probably Circuit City too. I think I've also seen those at Lowe's or Home Depot as well.

I picked up a set made by phillips from lowes today. In their instructions it shows how to add a 2nd/3rd/etc 'extension's tot he same base.. however.. nobody sells them, nor is there a parts list / contact number for them to be bought from philips int he packaging ( good going philips! somebody in marketing deserves a raise! )

I suspect i will have to buy 2 sets and canabilize one to get the 1 base / 2 extenders i need.

Have you considered putting the sattelite reciever in another room and installing a video/audio sender instead?

I'm not sure that is an option. While I could send the video signal fromt he out of the reciever to another room, the input tot he reciever will be the digital data from the dish... I'm gonna guess the 'sender' would mangle this.

I ended up getting a set of philips phone senders, and they worked as advertised.. so I'm in the clear.
