Other use for back-hoe hoses?

Someone please correct me if Im wrong, but is it true that the 3rd hose that goes to the "tank" is only necessary for a valve that has a "float" position on it like a backhoe or a loader does? Therefore it wouldnt need to be hooked up to a logsplitter or similiar valve?

Float has nothing to do with the 3rd connection. In this case it probably just bypasses the 3PH so it is inoperative when the backhoe in mounted.
