Last one for today, more to follow as we move along.

Well is in, Florida Public Utilities have run overhead line to a pole on our property, and should have our Modular Home set in about 3-4 weeks.

With ground that is that sandy, what is the process to keep the house from shifting? Or does the sand not shift????

You folks must have some special codes to deal with it.

It's fun seeing the regional differences. When I expanded my shop the footers had to be 4 feet deep to get below the frost line. The first thing I did when I saw how shallow your footers were was to check where you live. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

This may be an obvious question to some but why is it standard practice to not put in a fulll basement like we do in the north?

Since you northerners are already digging a footing down 4 feet or more and then stem walls, then you may as well build a basement instead of just pushing dirt in. Basements are only a couple bucks more up north.

The warmer folks have no need to dig down so they benefit from having their pipes, plumbing, and wiring exposed to below with a crawlspace system. We can still have basements but it would require lots of concrete.
