Beginning of September, my wife and I drove up to Cheyenne Wyoming to pick up Kaminari. Her names means Japanese Goddess of Thunder. Our male Akita is named Raiden, which is the Japanese God of Thunder and Lightning. Raiden showed first and won his class, but didn't place against the other winners. He's ony 21 months old and he is just getting back into the ring after an 8 month break from Tick Paralysis.
Karen has always wanted to have show dogs, go to dog shows and compete in the ring. She has never handled a dog in the rind, so today was her very first time. With puppies, it's all for practice. AKC doesn't give points for this, but the experience is priceless. She won her catagory of 4 to 6 month old puppies in working dogs. Then she competed against the other winners and won Best of Show!!!!!
Afterwards, the judges talked to Karen and gave her some tips to help her do better. They felt that Kami was so good that even with the mistakes Karen made, she more then made up for it. Only time will tell on how she turns out, but to say we are optimistic wouldn't even come close to how pleased we are right now.
